Waterfalls in Jamaica
When you think of a vacation in Ocho Rios or any Jamaica holiday, you likely picture the beautiful unspoiled beaches that ine the coastal areas of our island paradise.
But Jamaica has a wealth of natural beauty waiting to be discovered away from the white sand and crystal blue waters of the beach. Moving inland can allow you to discover the gorgeous waterfalls of Jamaica as well as the surrounding wildlands that make our island truly unique.
To help you plan the perfect Jamaica vacation, here is a closer look at three of the most beautiful waterfalls in Jamaica.
Dunns river falls Jamaica
1. Dunn’s River Falls and Park – The Spanish explorers who traveled many of the acres of rainforest lands across the island called the area that is now Dunn’s River Falls “Las Chorreras”, which means, “the waterfalls.” When you see the 600-foot drop of the falls at this beautiful park, you’ll understand why the landscape left such a memorable impression. Just a short drive from Ocho Rios, Dunns River Falls and Park allows you to climb the cliffs alongside the waterfall alone or with a guide, and you can swim and splash in the pools. There is also a picnic area and donkey rides available at the park.
2. YSL Falls – If you’re looking for an exciting day trip, making the 3-hour drive to YS Falls in Cornwall is a wonderful excursion. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the natural falls on the property and to swim in the pools. You can also enjoy the canopy zip line, which lets you view the waterfall from 40 feet above, tour the gardens and check out the beautiful horses on the stud farm located on the property. There is enough to do to make this day trip exciting for visitors of all ages.
3. Reach Falls – Sometimes called Reich Falls, Reach Falls is a picturesque waterfall that served as the location for the memorable waterfall scene in the Tom Cruise film “Cocktail.” Nestled in the heart of Montane Forest, Reach Falls is home to over 20 species of birds, wild pigs and a host of other native wildlife species. This waterfall is located in Portland Parish about 2.5 hours away from Ocho Rios in an area where few tourists venture. As a result, it provides a truly relaxing setting for any day trip. One of the most unique features of the area is a natural jacuzzi, where you can soak your cares away while basking in the sheer beauty of the forest landscape.
